Ligularia, the leopard plant is a
usually large imposing specimen planting for the back of a mixed border,
or may also be well positioned as a waterside plant.
They are tall and prefer moist
conditions. The leaves are large and may be smooth edged simple shapes
or palmate and toothed.
They may be grown from seed or propagated
by division in the spring or perhaps better after flowering (you can see
where they are better then too!).
Usually trouble free, but emerging tender
leaves may be eaten by slugs and snails along with all the other things
you hold precious in the garden. Good on clay soils.
