The Holly Castle Spire, llex 'Castle Spire' a Proven Winners selection, is one of the new blue hollies that works great as a foundation plant. This plant will attain heights of 8 to 10 feet and never be more than 3 feet wide. This narrow form makes it great for hedges, foundation plantings, or as a specimen. 'Castle Spire' is a beautiful new compact, pyramidal blue holly with large lustrous dark green leaves, bright red berries, and superior branching. This evergreen requires a male plant to create berries; 'Castle Wall' is recommended as a pollinator.'Castle Spire' needs full sun to partial shade. In colder climates, it is best to plant this evergreen so that it is not exposed to winter sun or wind. The north and east side of a building would be ideal. Fertilize in early spring by applying a slow release fertilizer specialized for trees and shrubs. Adaptable to many soils, moderate moisture, well drained best. 'Castle Spire' can be easily pruned to desired size and shape.
